About Tasmania Biz Directory

An independent directory of 1157 real trade and service businesses across 11 Tasmanian regions. Every listing is compiled by hand from the business’s own public material — never scraped from a map platform, never bought as a bulk list, and never invented to fill a page.

How a business gets listed here

Each entry is built from the business’s own website: their name, their phone number, the town they state they operate from, and what they say they do. We record the source we used and the date we last checked it, and the town on a listing is the town the business itself publishes — not one inferred from a postcode or a map pin.

Where a business does not publish a phone number on its own site, we leave it out rather than substitute one from elsewhere. Where we cannot confirm a detail, the field stays empty. A missing field is a small gap; a wrong phone number wastes somebody’s afternoon.

What we deliberately leave out

Many businesses that appear in a search for a Tasmanian trade are not listed here, and the reasons matter more than the count:

Lead-generation and booking services that present as a trade but whose own site shows the work is done by someone else. Listing one as a plumber misleads the person calling and undercuts every real plumber on the page.
National operators with no Tasmanian presence, however prominently they rank.
Businesses that publish no phone number anywhere they control. We would rather omit them than print a number we cannot verify.
Two brands on one phone number — that is one business, and it is counted once.
Domains that have changed hands. A surprising number of sites ranking for a Tasmanian trade no longer serve that trade at all, so we check the live site rather than the search result.

What the ranking means

The order of businesses on a region page is a presentation order, not a league table, and it is not a claim that the first business is better than the second. We do not publish star ratings or review scores, because we have not collected them ourselves and repeating someone else’s aggregate is not a measurement. Where a business states a rating on its own site, that belongs on their site rather than presented here as ours.

Featured placement, where it exists, is a paid position and is labelled as such. It never changes the factual content of a listing and never buys a claim a business cannot support.

Corrections and claiming a listing

If you own one of these businesses and something here is wrong — or you would like your listing removed — tell us and we will fix it. There is no charge for a correction and none for removal. A correction is not a favour to you; it is us fixing our own accuracy.

How this site is built

Tasmania Biz Directory is plain static HTML. There is no content management system, no database, no user accounts and no third-party advertising. One house banner sits under the header on every page: it advertises a free website audit run by the same person who builds this directory, it is not paid placement by any business in it, and it appears on every page — there is no dismiss button. Google Analytics is the only third-party resource any page loads, and every page works completely without it. It is built to load quickly on a poor connection in a rural area — which, in Tasmania, is precisely where a directory of trades is most useful.
